Can you have have insurance on 2 different cars with two different companies?
February 18th, 2009 Posted by: admin
My car is in my mother in laws name, she lives in NC I live in SC. The car is being bought through a bank in NC, so it is also redgistered and insured in NC. Both of our names are covered on the insurance, but it is way too high for me to afford right now. She uses one insurance company and I usually use a different one because it is cheaper, so my question is, can she insure my car (thats in her name) through a different insurance company, and still keep her other cars on insured through her company?

Yes, but a lot of insurance companies give discounts for multiple vehicles, and discounts if your home, and auto’s are insured through them.

it can be done like that ,and it wont hurt a thing, but the law states that you can only have a car insured one time, this way if it got wrecked you can only collect on it one time, good luck i hope this help,s.

If your mother-in-law owns the car, she is the only person who can insure it. Only the registered owner can insure a vehicle. She can insure the car with whichever company she wishes. If she has 8 cars, she can have 8 policies with 8 different companies.
